Fire up the barbeque and break out the Uranus Milk, as Dave and Mac welcome in the summer with reviews of Prince Caspian and the season finale of The Simpsons. Mac's PS2 is on the fritz, but Dave marshals on with Grand Theft Auto IV and Advance Wars. Mac previews his review of the Swedish action flick Storm. Dave takes a bullet for the team with his review of the Italian, middle-aged, sex fest The Beast in Space. Worst James Bond villain accessories. Incredibly intelligent cartoon dogs. The beautiful Northeast weather brings out the inner geek in Dave and Mac as they discuss unanswered Battlestar Galactica questions, the so-so start to Marvel Comics' Secret Invasion event, killing time with Crackdown for the Xbox 360, and just what is the "Guatemalan Handshake." Meanwhile, on the movie front, Mac justifies his disappointment in Cloverfield, Dave drools over the toddler-tossing, Hong Kong action flick Flash Point, and this week's Ambush Topic highlights include baseball films, unorthodox fist fights, and movie-inspired toys recalled for safety hazards. There's still snow in New England, but it hasn't damped the spirit of our intrepid podcasters, Dave, Mac, and Erich. The boys talk the return of prime-time comedies; great video game collateral damage; listener feedback; upcoming reviews including Human Giant: Season One, The Magic Blade, and the freaky French horror of Inside; April 08 DVD releases; and wicked cool Ambush Topics such as Evil psychics, Baseball moments in non-baseball films, and Action figures that don't exist... for good reason. Mac returns from London as Euro-trash, a Jack the Ripper scholar, and confounded by British television. The boys mourn the death of CBS' Jericho, preview next week's release of Sweeney Todd, recall steroid enhanced cartoon characters, detail painful deaths from the Indiana Jones franchise, and ponder new TV-inspired breakfast cereals. Trust me, this will go down as one of the best Ambush Topic segments ever. Enjoy! It's a super-sized Filibuster, as Dave welcomes in Judge Erich Asperschlager and Judge Adam Arseneau to tackle the 2009 relaunch of the Streetfighter franchise; the unshakeable curse of the Super Mario Bros.; pulling punches with the big screen adaptation of Hitman; the brain scarring mutilation scene within Ricco the Mean Machine; unveiling the lost Canadian dub of David Lynch's Lost Highway; movie genres that should never be parodied; how soon is too soon to reboot a movie franchise; and the obligatory Willow discussion. Today's drink special is Shemp Cocktail, thanks to a brand spanking new episode of The Friday Filibuster in which Judge Erich Asperschlager and Chief Justice Michael Stailey attempt to fill the shoes of the vacationing Mac McEntire. It's a valiant effort, covering such topics as Warner Bros.' plans for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, salvaging the 2007-08 television season, Erich's take on Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited, and a unique game of Ambush Topics. Trust me, you'll appreciate Mac's return. Enjoy! Shut yo mouth! It's a very special episode, the boys leave nothing to waste. An embarrassing case of premature torch passing kicks off a head first dive into the down and dirty world of Roller Derby; before exploring the breakneck pace of the new-improved Lost; giving The State the shaft; the cast of Firefly taking on The Sands of Oblivion; fondly remembering Hot Sunday's caffeine pill addictions and alien puppet interventions; defending the great Craig Bierko; and Dave's irrational hatred of fake British accents. Two halves do in fact make a whole, as Dave and Mac come together for yet another action-packed, 30 min, Britney-free, entertainment extravaganza. Mac is underwhelmed by CLOVERFIELD but overjoyed by KING OF KONG, while Dave is jazzed by "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" for the PS3 and "Rock Band" for the Xbox 360. On the DVD front, three's are the magic number. Mac previews his take on Beauty and the Beast: The Third Season and Dave channels Mr. T for his critique of Criss Angel: Mindfreak: Season Three. Follow that up with a rundown of Feb 5 upcoming releases, on the way to this week's Ambush Topic minefield, where we travel the world with James Bond, Doctor Who, Superman, and Lorenzo Lamas? The weekend is upon us and the award (yet to be determined) winning show is back to kill another half hour of your day. This week, the boys tackle Jet Li, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Peter Berg, Jessica Simpson, and Billy Bob Thornton. Escaping from that Hollywood melee, Dave and Mac dive head first into the Jan 29 cover art gallery, where power yoga meets punk rockers, video game champs take on oversized Maine alligators, and Ricco the Mean Machine visits the Barn of the Naked Dead. With only minor appendages missing, they hobble onto the Ambush Topic battlefield for a tour de force of stinky winkies, shark attacks, awkward time travel, strange creatures who dance well, and death by grinding. Please note: No foreign substances were ingested during the recording of this show. Enjoy! Dave and Mac are triumphantly reunited, following Mac's diabolical computer crash three weeks ago. Sadly, this unfortunate setback booted Mac's Vampire/Dragon novel out of the "Write a novel in one month" contest. On a happier note, the boys spend this episode dissecting Bob Zemekis' BEOWULF in 2D and 3D and the quirky new documentary THE KING OF KONG; suffering the wasteland of new television due to the writer's strike; Mac's take on Cartoon Network's live-action BEN 10 movie; and perusing the upcoming releases for December 4th, including PIRATES 3, SUPERBAD, NANNY DIARIES, 24: SEASON 6, and BSG: SEASON ONE in HD. While it may take them a couple episode to regain their groove, Ambush Topics like these will carry them through: Hammers on film; Creatures with more than one head; Memorable tentacles; Who wins in a tag team cage match between Aragorn & Boromir and Inigo & Westley? You make the call. Enjoy! You can email the boys your questions, complaints, and suggestions at fridayfilibuster@dvdverdict.com, or show your support by voting for us at Podcast Alley, and Digg. Minor audio issues and heavy breathing aside, the boys are back in fine form. It's gaming week: Dave is addicted to HALO 3, while Mac is tackling MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE. The boys talk the fallout of Paramount's decision to go exclusively with the HD DVD format. Judges David Johnson and Mac McEntire are back in the saddle for another show. Dave shares his experience watching Nomad, the Warrior and its lack of "holy crap" moments. Mac loves his Monster Squad. The disappointment continues, as Dave fails to be impressed by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Mac feels the same about the book (which he just finished). But the tide is stemmed by Live Free or Die Hard, which Dave calls "one of the more entertaining films of the summer." Previewing next week's releases, 300 rises head and shoulders above the crowd, followed quickly by Hot Fuzz, and Pathfinder. Ambush topics of the week: Best gun fights; Monsters that come in strange shapes and sizes; Just die already; Monsters that should be scary but aren't. Enjoy!
